Tell us about your role
I spend most of my time working directly with business customers. As a Director I am involved in the forward planning of the business and implementing these plans. As the business grows I am spending more time coaching and motivating both our experienced staff and those at the early stages of their careers.
How long have you been with the firm?
Since 2012.
What was your background before that?
I started my insurance career at the tender age of 17 and remained with the same firm for 23 years. In that period I held a number of positions from Office Junior through to Branch Manager at different locations throughout Scotland.
I joined Murphy Insurance in 2012 and loved it so much I bought the company!
What are your special skills?
I get on with people! It’s a bit of a cliché but being able to interact comfortably with people from all sorts of backgrounds is arguably my number 1 skill.
Beyond this it has to be a dogged determination to succeed.
What do you get up to outside of work?
I am a doting dad so most of the time I’ll be spending quality time with my wife and two sons.
I love a game of golf. The trouble is, it doesn’t love me back!
What is your guilty pleasure?
Getting the wireless headphones on and hooking up to 70s/80s music on Youtube. Is watching Strictly cool or not?
